Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you based?
We are based in Gateshead, UK, though we operate virtually and don’t have our own building you can visit. We provide grants for individuals living in Gateshead and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and the surrounding areas. If you attend therapy sessions in person they will be in the therapist’s own premises, in the local area. If you access therapy by Zoom or telephone, your therapist may be based anywhere in the UK.
If I receive a grant, how many therapy sessions will I get?
This depends on the type of therapy you have chosen to access, and the cost of the sessions. On average, most people will receive about three months of weekly sessions. If you are in a position to contribute to the cost of sessions then it could be more.
What types of therapy can I access?
We will consider funding any evidence-based therapy that is delivered by a qualified and insured therapist, who is registered with an appropriate professional membership body. For example this includes various types of counselling or psychotherapy (talking therapy), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
Do I need counselling or psychotherapy?
Therapy can be helpful for most people at any time in our life, but particularly at times when how we’re feeling is affecting our day-to-day life and relationships. It is an ongoing weekly commitment, so it is important to consider whether that feels right for you at this time. If you are unsure whether therapy is what you need right now, we would be happy to discuss it with you. We can also suggest alternative options and resources.
What if I don’t know what type of therapy is right for me?
When you apply for a grant we will arrange to discuss your application with you. If you require some help to chose the right type of therapy we can discuss the options with you and help you decide.
I have a therapist in mind who I would like to work with, can you fund sessions with them?
If the therapist meets our requirements for professional qualifications and insurance then it is likely we could fund sessions with them.
Who receives the money if my application for a grant is successful?
Grants are paid directly to the therapist
I want to have therapy on Zoom, will you fund that?
Yes we will fund in-person therapy, therapy on video conferencing platforms (e.g. Zoom) or over the telephone, depending on which is the most appropriate medium for you.
Can you pay travel costs?
If the cost of travel is going to be a barrier to you accessing therapy then we can discuss solutions. In the first instance we will work with you to find an appropriate therapist who is local to you to reduce costs, we will also discuss whether therapy on Zoom or by telephone is an option. If the cost of travel remains an issue then we will consider funding travel.
I’m a therapist who would like to work with your beneficiaries, how do I do that?
We have a list of therapists beneficiaries can consider if they don’t already have a therapist in mind. If you would like to be included in that list please get in touch to discuss the requirements.
